Last month I finally was able to take an entire week of vacation! Rob was able to take a few days off and we took a few day trips. Of course we headed to one of my favorite places – Madison, WI. We took the back-roads for part of the trip to get there. It was pretty and there wasn’t much traffic until we got to the freeway.
Farm land – lots of it:
We finally decided to give Monty’s Blue Plate Diner a try. It has a neat retro/diner vibe inside and we were seated promptly. Rob decided to go with the Almond Milk French Toast and I went for the Tempeh Hash with Tofu Scramble. The server was really with it. He told me the biscuit isn’t vegan and asked if I wanted toast which was vegan. I went with dry Rye toast. I know I was ordering vegan menu items, but usually we end up with clueless servers who wouldn’t catch that. It was nice not to even have to say it. We also each got a cup of coffee. I like their coffee and had a few refills.

The food was terrific. Where do they get their Rye bread? It was fantastic! Everything tasted really fresh and flavorful. I’d order this again and again. Rob enjoyed his food but kept eyeing my food. He said his french toast was delicious but would order what I had next time.
Our server was friendly and one of the cooks came out of the kitchen to ask how the food was and joked around with us. My parents would love this place. I am definitely going to bring my parents here.
They have their own parking lot but I imagine as they get crowded, you’d have to find street parking. Overall, I thought it was a good value for what we got, friendly service, and most importantly, tasty food. I hope we can go back to Monty’s again soon!
