Seitan O' Greatness, Cheap Luna Bars

If you get the Sundance Channel, there is a new series dedicated to the environment called The Green. It is presented by Robert Redford and I should mentioned one of the series’ sponsors is Lexus?!! However, it looks like it will be an interesting series. It airs every Tuesday at 9 p.m. Eastern starting today (April 17) through July 10th. Each night, there will be two shows. Tonight it will be Big Ideas for a Small Planet: Fuel and A Crude Awakening: The Oil Crash.

Silk Soymilk is offering a sweepstakes. Go to the sweepstakes page and submit a UPC code from specially marked packages. Don’t have a code? They provide you with codes right on the site! For each code entered, they will make a wind-energy donation equal to 30 kilowatt hours. You’ll also be entered to win energy-efficient appliances and/or Gaiam gift certificates. Good Luck!

I finally jumped on the Seitan O’ Greatness bandwagon. As you can tell, I didn’t do a very good job making an equal sized round and I think the picture is a bit, um, less than flattering. The seitan was tasty but I was expecting it to be a little spicier. As is, it was pretty mild for my tastes but that is easily fixed. Rob and I are big fans of spicy foods. Next on my agenda is to try the spicy seitan pepperoni, which Bazu recently made.

I found a good deal on Luna Bars at Super Target. They had a Luna 6-pack with a bonus Sunrise Luna Bar for only $4.50. That’s cheap for 7 Luna Bars! I don’t care for the Sunrise Luna Bars but Rob likes them so it won’t go to waste.

While at Super Target, I peeked at the Easter stuff on clearance. Everything was 90% off. There wasn’t much left but I did find this adorable Easter card for only 10ยข! That’s cheaper than what I could make the card for at home. It was the only card like it that they had left.

Hope you have a wonderful day. ๐Ÿ˜€ For those of you that like vintage kitchenware…my next post will be about my recent Fire King score.

My mom and I went to Target this weekend too, and she scored a few things from the Easter clearance (cute socks with chicks on them, and a cute bucket). I love post-holiday clearances!
I know what you mean about wanting the seitan more spicy. Even the spicy pepperoni could have been spicier for my and Daiku’s tastes. We even used regular (hotter) paprika instead of smoked, and I would still recommend upping the spices, since you and Rob also like things hot.
You know, I actually do like the Luna sunrise bars, so I’ll look for that box. It’s a great deal- I’m just not sure my Target carries it.
Can’t wait to see the Fire King find!

That’s something I want to try too…I’ve never made seitan before. Yours looks good!

I look forward to seeing the Fire King find as well ;o) !

I must jump on the seitan o greatness band wagon.

Thanks for the tip on the show and on the Silk contest. I’ll check that out.

Good stuff! TARGET is the greatest, i really love that store. Thanks for the cool lynx (links!) to the Soymilk site. SILK’s da bomb! That Easter card is extremely cute!! Your seitan may be lopsided but i love it anyway, Emmy. Why? Because YOU made it! When you do it up like Bazu, nice ‘n’ spicy, please do share.

I really want to make Seitan too. It looks amazing. I just have to get the nutritional yeast, which I am having some difficulties finding at the moment.

I adore Target! I am always finding great bargains there! That Easter card is so cute!

Emmy, thanks for the book and website recommendations, I will check them out. I would really like to try to make the recipe for seitan. What did you do with yours? Sandwiches?

  • vegandiva April 18, 2007, 2:41 pm

Sara, oh my goodness, I forgot to mention how I used it. Duh! Rob claimed half of it for sandwiches, I cubed some and added it to pasta sauce, and then I kept a few slices to snack on. The recipe itself is really easy to make…I just have to tinker with the seasonings so it’s not so mild. I also just tried the spicy seitan pepperoni which I’ll be blogging about either tomorrow or Friday. I liked that even more than this.

You’re welcome for the gardening book recommendation. I like You Grow Girl because it’s not one of those dry, stuffy gardening books. Oh, and check some of your local garden centers/greenhouses…often they have free container gardening classes ๐Ÿ™‚

That television series sounds really good, but I don’t think we get the Sundance channel. I’ll have to check.

That card is so cute! I’m a sucker for anything baby chick-related.
